Paper House Ornaments have been a Christmas tradition for generations. They also make unique New Home Gifts for neighbors or friends who will be celebrating their First Christmas in a new home this year.
You can either use battery powered string lights or an electric tea light placed in your paper house ornaments from the inside or from the back to get that warm Christmas glow. Or, simply cover them in bright glitter and set out as a display for spring or summer décor in your home. Using a template, all you need is a little paper, felt, glitter, scissors and glue to create dazzling new home gifts.
How To Make Home Sweet Home Paper House Ornaments:

Paper House Ornaments (New Home Gifts) Steps 1-5
Step 1: Print the picture of a paper house template. The internet has plenty of templates to choose from. We selected this one due to its simplicity and available places to make more windows. Before printing, you should determine the size. You may need to reduce the size of the template in order to make it “ornament size”.

Step 2: Cut out the house by cutting along all of the solid lines and leaving the dotted lines, which are folding lines.
Step 3: Next, place the paper house template on a piece of cardboard and cut out the windows and three sides of the door, leaving one side attached to open on its “hinge”.
Note: Due to the small size of paper house ornaments, it will be easier to cut out the windows and door with an exacto blade or crafting knife. However, if you don’t have one, small, sharp scissors will also work.
Step 4: Once your have cut out the windows, it’s time to fold the house. Make sure you fold along all of the dotted lines.
Step 5: Turn the house template inside out. Cut small pieces of tissue paper and glue them so that they cover the windows. Make sure to keep the glue on the inside walls of the paper house and not in the actual windows, which will ruin the translucent effect.
Paper House Ornaments (New Home Gifts) Steps 6-10
Step 6: Next, squeeze a little glue on all of the inside flaps that you folded and put your house together. If you want to attach a ribbon from the inside or add inside lighting, now would be the time to do that, prior to putting the paper house ornaments together.
Step 7: Press the folds together until the glue adheres and let it dry. Now you should have a completed house.
Step 8: Here comes the fun part, decorating your new home gifts! Using the glue, coat the outside of the house (not including the windows) with a thin coat of glue. Then, shake glitter on top to cover, or any way you would like your house to look.
Step 9: Next, in order to hang your paper house ornaments, cut a piece of ribbon and glue to the back of the house. Let it dry.
Step 10: Finally, cut a piece of felt and glue it to the bottom of your house. We used green to symbolize grass, but you can use any color. The felt will give your paper house ornaments a foundation and greater stability for hanging on the tree.
That’s it! Now you have glittery paper house ornaments that you can decorate with. Or, give as new home gifts to friends and family who have recently moved. Make a variety of them to create a scenic village display or hang over lights on your tree for a traditional look.
