Waffles are finally getting the recognition they deserve! With their versatility, waffles are now more than just a weekend breakfast treat topped with butter and syrup. They have become highly coveted sandwiches, flanking anything from chicken entrees, to desserts such as ice cream. Waffle sandwiches have even made an appearance as a ballpark concession stand favorite!
In Belgium, waffle vendors are on every corner and you can get your waffles topped with just about anything! Here, we don’t have waffle vendors, but we do have National Waffle Day. Make adorable waffle ornaments on August 24th, to celebrate this national holiday.
Step By Step Instructions On How To Craft Waffles Ornaments
Working with modeling clay is the ideal way to make novelty Ornament Waffles!
Supplies:
- Craft modeling clay or polymer clay (golden brown and yellow)
- Rolling pin
- Mini square stamp or other square object
- Craft mini eye screw
- Ribbon
Step 1: Using the rolling pin, thickly roll out the brown clay into a square or rectangle shape.
Step 2: Cut into a square shape using a sharp blade.
Step 3: Make a series of squares along the surface to resemble the surface of a waffle.
Step 4: Roll out the yellow clay.
Step 5: Cut yellow clay into two “pats of butter” and press to the clay waffle.
Step 6: Insert the eye screw into the top that you want your waffles to hang from and bake your waffle creation according to the instructions on the package of clay.
Step 7: Thread a ribbon through the eye screw and you are ready to hang your ornament!
