DIY Valentines That Make Perfect Valentine Decorations Too!

Do you like Valentine Decorations or does your child need to make DIY Valentines for school? It can be difficult to come up with creative ideas that don’t include candy, paper doilies or a lot of cutting with scissors! Here are practical, fun and unique valentine decorations that are easy to make in your kitchen.

Our melted crayon ornaments make great Valentine Decorations OR DIY Valentines that your child can give to all of the students in his or her class. All it takes is a few supplies, a lot of crayons and heaps of fun!

How To Create DIY Valentines or Valentine Decorations For Your Home

These step by step instructions will show you how to make both DIY Valentines and Valentine Decorations because the process is the same, but the DIY Valentines have one less step.

Supplies:

  • Heart shaped silicone baking mold
  • Crayons
  • Optional (for Valentine Decorations): skewer
  • Optional (for Valentine Decorations: ribbon

Step 1: Peel the crayons and break them into various sizes pieces. Fill the mold with the pieces. If you have a deep mold (such as the one shown), fill each mold only half way to the top. If you have a shallow mold, fill it to the top with the crayon pieces.

Step 2: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. When ready, place the mold on a baking sheet and bake for approximately 10 minutes, until all of the crayon pieces are melted.

Step 3: If you are making DIY Valentines, skip to Step 4. For Valentine Decorations, cool for approximately 6-8 minutes or until crayons are set, but not hard. Insert the skewer into the top of the hearts to make a hole that you will use to hang the heart ornaments. Make sure the hole goes all the way through the crayon.

Step 4: Cool and when completely set, turn the mold over and pop out the hearts. DIY Valentines are now done! Valentine Decorations continue to Step 5.

Step 5: Cut lengths of ribbon and tie through the holes in the top of the melted crayon ornaments and your Valentine Decorations are ready to hang!

That’s it! These Valentine Decorations are easy to make and can be used with any color crayons. You can choose to make them red and pink or add a splash of blue and purple for some extra pizzazz. They even look great when you use all different shades of pink or multiple variations of red.

DIY Valentines are now colorful crayons that children love to get! They are practical and can be used for coloring or drawing, and are fun for any age! The more colors you use, the more fun it can be to color with, so go ahead and use the entire box of 64 crayons! Use the saying “You Color My World, Valentine” on the DIY Valentine and stick the crayon on the front with double-sided tape. Too cute!
