Reminisce with our 20th Anniversary Titanic Commemorative Glass Ball Ornament

Did you know that it’s been 20 years (March 23rd) since the Titanic movie splashed across screens all over America?  The movie won a record matching 11 Academy Awards (tied with Ben Hur and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) for its 14 category nominations (the greatest amount of all time).  Relive the celebrated, but ill-fated, love story between Jack and Rose on the deck of the unsinkable ship by making a commemorative ornament.

Titanic is not only an iconic love story for the ages, but the movie influenced so many cruise ship passengers to run to the front of the ship, throw out their arms and declare “I’m the King of the World!”, that cruise ships had to restrict access to the area at the front of their ships.  Movie-goers turned out in droves to see the romance bloom and then die over and over again at the theaters.  If you, or a friend of yours saw the movie many times, this commemorative ornament is the perfect gift!

Step 3: Now you are ready for painting.  Mix the blue paints together, leaving the colors so that they are not blended completely.  Then pour the mixed paint into the glass ball ornament.  Tilt the paint to coat the bottom and the lower sides, making sure to come up to the bottom of the ship.  Then let it dry.

Step 4: Take the glitter paint and paint your iceberg in front of the Titanic, on the outside of the clear glass ball ornament.  It is important to use both the back and some of the side of the ornament, to give it some dimension.  After it is dry, use the white paint over the iceberg to fill in any gaps in the glitter paint, and then let it dry.

This was my favorite movie when I was younger! Perhaps I will try making this Titanic glass ball ornament. Where did you get the picture of the Titanic?

Elizabeth: Mine too! You can simply do an internet search on the word TITANIC and click on Images to see the many varieties that are available. I used one from Wikipedia and colored it in with markers.
