Plastic Bottle Craft Flower Ornaments Steps 1 – 3
Step 1: This plastic bottle craft works best with water bottles, because the plastic is thin and easy to cut. Using the exacto blade, poke the tip the bottle approximately ½” from the base. Holding the bottle with one hand, carefully slide the exacto blade all the way around the bottle, slowly rotating, until the bottom comes off.
Step 2: Next, recycle the top parts of the water bottle, and soak up any water droplets that remain in the bottom with a paper towel. It is important to note that if your plastic is wet, your paint will thin and not spread evenly.
Step 3: The first part of the painting process for the flower ornaments is to coat the inside of the bottom of the water bottle. We left gaps to see easily see the design through the other side, but this isn’t necessary if you don’t mind the other color coming through.
Plastic Bottle Craft Flower Ornaments Steps 4 – 7
Step 4: Once the inside paint is dry, it’s time to paint the outside of your flower ornaments. Because the water bottle bases have grooves in them, it is easy to follow these crevices with your paintbrush to keep the design consistent.
Step 5: Once all of the paint is dry, you can add glitter embellishments with any color glitter and glue. Let it dry.
Step 6: Next, using the hole puncher, punch a hole in each of your flower ornaments. It is important to make sure that the paint is dry prior to punching the hole.
Step 7: Finally, it is time to put the finishing touches on your plastic bottle craft. Cut a piece of ribbon, thread it through the hole and tie a knot at the top to secure your flower ornaments for hanging.
That’s it! Now you have unique, bright and colorful flower ornaments to decorate your home for spring. This plastic bottle craft makes a wonderful family activity for a rainy day or a grade school classroom project that can be paired with an educational unit on recycling and re-purposing.
