What is it about a Cupcake that makes it feel like you are celebrating something exciting? Is it the individual serving of a moist cake, the whipped up frosting satisfying a sweet tooth craving, or that they simply are the perfect way to treat yourself to something special?
I don’t know exactly, but I love a good cupcake dessert! Obviously, I’m not alone, because I discovered October 18th is National Chocolate Cupcake Day! Inspired by this, I whipped up a batch of chocolate cupcakes in the kitchen and decided I needed to commemorate the occasion by making a Cupcake Ornament!
Love Cupcakes? Make A Cupcake Ornament That Looks Good Enough To Eat!
My favorite cupcakes are the brightly colored ones that you will find at your local bakery, so I decided to make a cupcake ornament with some of my favorite pastel rainbow colors! This is a fun craft to do with children. They will have fun choosing their own colors and adding their favorite amount of sprinkles to the top!
Cupcake Ornament Supplies:
- Clear or frosted glass ball ornament
- Paint (any color you wish your cupcake to be
- Cupcake paper liner cups
- Red clay
- Piece of wire
- Red glitter
- Iridescent glitter flakes
- Modge podge
- Beads (bugle and/or seed beads)
- Glue
- Ribbon
Step 1: Carefully remove the cap and pour paint inside of the glass ball ornament. Swirl it around until completely coated. Turn upside down on a paper towel to drain out the extra paint and let it dry.
Step 2: While the cupcake ornament is drying, use the red clay to form a ball that will be the cherry. Using the ornament cap, form the clay around it, making sure to leave room to tie a ribbon through the top. Carefully remove the clay in one piece and bake in the oven according to the directions on the package.
Step 3: While the cherry is in the oven, twist the wire, coat with glue and shake the red glitter on the top, leaving the pointed end of the wire to stick into the clay. Let it dry.
Step 4: When the cherry for your cupcake comes out of the oven, let it cool slightly, but make sure it is still pliable. Carefully mold the cherry back over the cupcake ornament cap and stick in the red glittered “cherry stem” wire.
Step 5: Using Modge Podge, coat the top of your glass ball, making it look like frosting. Allow the liquid to drip down to make your cupcake icing look authentic. Before it dries, shake the glitter flakes over your frosting. Let it dry.
Step 6: Glue the beads to the top and then glue the bottom of the glass ball to a cupcake liner cup.
Step 7: Replace the “cherry” cap onto the top of the cupcake. Tie a ribbon to the top of your delectable dessert cupcake decoration!
That’s it! Now you have a pretty cupcake ornament just in time to celebrate National Chocolate Cupcake Day on October 18th! Don’t forget cupcake ornaments make great party favors for a birthday celebration.
