When I see this Cherry Ornament hanging from my Christmas tree, it reminds me of warm summer days. One of my favorite things about the summertime is all the delicious summer fruits! I have so many fond memories of picking cherries with my kids at local cherry orchards. That’s why I wanted to make this cute DIY Cherry Ornament. I love to see this bright colorful ornament hanging from my Christmas tree to remind me of these special times.
Do you want to know why I love this Cherry Ornament so much? It’s because this ornament is the perfect blend of my two favorite seasons – Summertime and Christmastime! When I see cherries I think of my favorite summertime fruit, while the bright shades of red and green on this ornament remind me of the classic colors of Christmas.
How To Make a DIY Cherry Ornament
Create this Cherry Ornament in just a few simple steps. This is a great craft to make with kids, especially on those summer days when it’s just too hot to play outside. They will love to work with all of the fun textures in the felt, pipe cleaner and pom-poms.
Supplies:
- Red Pom-Poms (2)
- Green Pipe Cleaner
- Dark Green Felt
- Light Green Felt
- Black Marker
- Scissors
- Glue
Step 1: First, fold the pipe cleaner in half. Next, twist one leg around the other creating a loop at the top. This is how your Cherry Ornament will hang from the tree, so you’ll want to make sure that this loop is large enough to fit on a Christmas Tree branch.
Step 2: Apply a dab of glue to the bottom tip of the pipe cleaner.
Step 3: Now, nuzzle the red pom-pom into the glued tip of the pipe cleaner and secure it in place.
Repeat Steps 2 & 3 to attach the second cherry pom-pom.
Step 4: In this step you’re going to draw two leaves. First, draw a large leaf on the dark green felt. Then draw a smaller leaf on the light green felt. Finally, cut both leaves out.
Step 5: Apply some glue to the back of the small light green leaf and secure it on top of the large dark green leaf.
Step 6: Finally, apply a dab of glue to the pipe cleaner where the two stems come together, and gently press the leaves on top of the stem to secure in place.
That’s it! Now you have created a Cherry Ornament that will look great hanging from your Christmas tree. You’ll be sure to cherry-ish this ornament for years to come!
