There’s nothing that embodies the Christmas season quite like the perfect Christmas tree. This guide covers some of the most common tree varieties to help you choose your Christmas tree this holiday.
Few things represent the holiday season better than a Christmas tree.
For some people, the perfect Christmas tree is all about the wintry aroma that an evergreen can add to the home during the holidays. For others, the perfect tree is about tradition, serving as a monument to all of the beautiful ornaments and decorations they’ve collected over the years.
Every year, I look forward to picking out our Christmas tree. If you’re like me and want a tree that will be able to hold your heavier ornaments, a nice Fraser Fir is the way to go. Finding a good Fraser fir has been a Weller family tradition for many years now.
Of course, finding the best Christmas tree is no easy task. That’s why I created this Christmas tree guide to help take some of the guesswork out of selecting your tree. Be sure to use this guide when you and your family are choosing the perfect type of Christmas tree for your home this holiday season.
Fraser Fir
Widely regarded as the perfect Christmas tree species, the Fraser fir can be found at nearly every tree lot or choose-and-cut farm.
This tree is one of the most popular types of Christmas trees, and for good reason. The Fraser fir has dark blue-green needles with a silver underside. The Fraser’s branches are turned slightly upward, making them stiff enough to support heavier ornaments. Also, these trees have great needle retention and give off a very pleasant Christmas aroma.
It’s no wonder Fraser firs are such popular Christmas trees!
Douglas Fir
Along with Fraser firs, Douglas firs are one of the top major Christmas tree species in the United States.
The Douglas fir is a very dense and long-lasting tree with dark green needles that are soft to the touch. When crushed, the Douglas fir’s needles give off a sweet scent, perfect for the Christmas season.
However, unlike the Fraser fir (which has sturdy branches), the Douglas fir’s branches aren’t as stiff, so you’ll need to stick with lightweight ornaments when decorating this tree.
If you’re looking for a beautiful, long-lasting tree, then the Douglas fir is just what you need!
Balsam Fir
One of the most traditional Christmas trees in much of the United States is known as the Balsam fir.
Balsam firs have several desirable Christmas tree characteristics. For instance, it has a dark green appearance with an attractive form, and it has long lasting needles.
The branches on the Balsam fir tree are strong and are able to support a variety of different ornament sizes and shapes.
