Did you know the average Polar Bear is 9 feet tall and 1,400 pounds? Yet, we still consider these beasts of the Arctic Circle cute and cuddly bears. February 27th is National Polar Bear Day and what better way to celebrate winter than with a Polar Bear Ornament that you can easily craft at home with the kids.
Since scientists believe the polar ice cap will melt in the next 100 years, the 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears in the wild are soon to lose their natural habitat. Imagine the citizens of Canada, Russia, Alaska, Greenland and Norway having some large, white, furry neighbors in the future!
How to Make A Polar Bear Christmas Craft Ornament On National Polar Bear Day
Cold outside? Well, then we’ve got a fun project for you! Make a warm, cuddly polar bear ornament with your kids. They are quick and easy to make!
Supplies:
- Frosted glass ball ornament
- Crystal glitter (optional)
- White paint
- White felt
- Pink marker
- Glue
- Scissors
- Black paint marker
- Ribbon
Polar Bear Ornament Steps 1-4
Step 1: Remove the ornament top and then shake some of the glitter into the ornament. It is important to swirl the glitter around and get it to stick to the sides a bit. Note that the glitter is optional, but it gives the polar bear a slightly textured look.
Step 2: Pour white paint into the glass ball ornament. Cover the hole with your finger and shake until the paint coats the entire inside of the glass ball. Then let it dry.
Step 3: Use the scissors to cut two ears out of the white felt, allowing an extra piece on the bottom in order to make gluing them to the glass ball easier.
Step 4: Take the marker and lightly color a little pink circle in the center of each felt ear. As a result, this will look like the inner ear.

Step 5: Now use the glue to secure the ears to the glass ball. It is important to clue the pink sides of the ear facing down.
Once they are secure, place a drop of glue on the bottom of the BACK SIDE of the ear and press lightly down. Hold until glue sets and the ears stand out.
Step 6: You’re almost finished! Next, use the paint markers to draw a polar bear face onto the front of the glass ball.
Step 7: In order to finish off your polar bear ornament, replace the ornament cap on the glass ball. Use the scissors to cut a ribbon and tie to the top of the cap.
That’s it! Your adorable polar bear ornament is ready! Make one or more of these for National Polar Bear Day and hang on an ornament stand for a unique holiday display. Great winter classroom project for kids because it is quick and simple to do.
