An Easy DIY Yarn Gift For Loved Ones Who Knit

Has a loved one knitted or crocheted a gift for you in the past? Gift them a DIY Yarn Ornament to say thank you! People who enjoy knitting are always giving their projects away to loved ones, so this time, those loved ones can gift their own project in return! This keepsake is perfect for kids or knitting novices to give to an aunt, mom, or grand mom who has always knitted for them, and it can be personalized with her name and your own favorite saying.  Use her favorite colored yarn to make it extra special, or a multicolored ball of yarn like we did.  So easy to do and she will love hanging this decoration in her home.

It is fun to make knitting yarn ornaments because yarn is pliable and easy to glue.  These “thank you” gifts require only a few supplies and you can make a lot of them with just one ball of yarn.  If your friend has a cat, you can give her the remaining yarn as a toy for her precious pet.

Step 1:  Completely paint two toothpicks all the way around.

Step 2:  While the toothpicks are drying, it’s time to make the ornament.  Carefully remove the cap from the glass ball ornament.  Using the hot glue, secure one end of the yarn to the top of the ornament and wind around the ornament in a circle, continually gluing to secure as you go along.  Don’t worry about any minor gaps, because they can be covered later.

Step 7: Now it’s time to personalize your yarn ornaments to make them into friendship gifts!  Cut out a tag for your ornament and personalize it, leaving enough room for a yarn border. Glue a piece of yarn around the perimeter of your tag.  Use a hole puncher and cut a hole large enough to string a piece of the yarn through to attach to your yarn ornament.
