Here in America, we certainly have no shortage of strange holidays. Here are five silly holidays you won’t believe are real!
I’ve come to enjoy these silly holidays. They’ve taken a unique shape in today’s culture and are quickly becoming very popular. Who ever thought that National Dog Day would be something we celebrate? I sure didn’t!
Mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate these five silly holidays you won’t believe are real!
National Hot Dog Day
This year, National Hot Dog Day is celebrated on July 23rd and honors one of America’s favorite summer meals: hot dogs! Pardon the pun, but I think it’s only fitting that this dog finally gets its day.
National Hot Dog Day was created by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council to celebrate this summertime staple. Many activities centered around hot dogs occur on this day, such as picnics, cookouts, and even hot dog eating competitions.
To celebrate National Hot Dog Day, why not grill up some hot dogs for lunch and dinner? Invite family and friends over for a cookout or picnic and enjoy this long-time, all-American favorite!
Take Your Houseplant For A Walk Day
This is one of the sillier holidays I’ve found. It involves taking your favorite houseplant on a walk with you. It’s not taking your dog for a walk – I’m talking literal houseplants!
Taker Your Houseplant For A Walk Day is celebrated annually on July 27th. The idea behind this day is to celebrate plants and to help get them acquainted to their natural environment.
Join in and celebrate this very silly holiday by taking your houseplant on a walk with you. I’m sure you could both benefit from the fresh air!
National Watermelon Day
National Watermelon Day is celebrated annually on August 3rd.
Watermelon is a favorite at summertime events such as picnics or parties. The fruit is enjoyed by many and is 92% water, which makes it one of the most refreshing summer snacks.
Celebrate with the rest of the country and enjoy a refreshing slice of watermelon on this day!

Mad Hatter Day
Mad Hatter Day is the perfect day to be silly!
It is celebrated annually on October 6th, and honors the fictional character from Alice In Wonderland – the Mad Hatter. Since the day is all about the Mad Hatter, it’s only fitting that you act a little silly yourself.
Grab your top hat and have a wonderfully silly day!
National Hug Your Cat Day
This holiday is celebrated on June 4th of every year. It is one of those straightforward holidays in which cat lovers everywhere are encouraged to hug their cats. Although many cat owners might already do this every day, it’s good to be reminded to spend more time with our favorite feline friends.
If you don’t have a cat to hug, no need to worry. The day can simply be adapted into “Hug Someone Else’s Cat Day.”
